Council-certified Indoor Environmentalist

​The Council-certified Indoor Environmentalist is a certification for professionals that evaluate the indoor air quality of all building types. This certification is offered by the American Council for Accredited Certification (ACAC) to select few that meet strict requirement in education and experience.

The Council-certified Indoor Environmentalist

The ACAC operates CESB-accredited certification programs for professionals in indoor air quality and related fields. Accreditation is the independent testimony of a third-party observer that an organization's program is developed and operated in compliance with nationally recognized standards. The Council of Engineering and Scientific Specialty Boards (CESB), founded in 1991, has established a national reputation for accrediting certification programs in engineering and science-related fields. ACAC offers the only programs dedicated to the field of indoor air quality to achieve CESB accreditation. As of 2014, the Council's CIE, CMI, CMR, CMRS, CEICI, CEICR, CETI, CIER, CSDR, CIAQM, and CRMI programs are all fully accredited by CESB at engineering-technician level.

​1. Preamble

1. The American Council for Accredited Certification is a professional association and independent certifying body. The Board of Directors has adopted, and commends to its certificants, the following code of conduct.

1. The objective of this code is to provide guidance for appropriate conduct for the certificants of the American Council for Accredited Certification as they engage in their individual professions.
   

3. Rules of Conduct

1. Certificants of the American Council for Accredited Certification shall:
2. Practice their respective professions following accepted industry standards and guidelines.
3. Exercise caution not to misrepresent their credentials, training or experience.
4. Deal responsibly in advising parties regarding potential risks related to their fields of expertise.
5. Maintain confidentiality concerning both personal and business information gathered in the performance of their professions, except in the case of overriding legal and/or health concerns.
6. Avoid instances where conflict of interest or compromise of professional judgment may occur.
7. Act with integrity to uphold the standards of their profession and of the Council and avoid any conduct that could adversely reflect on the Council and its certificants.

4. Note on Conflict of Interest

​The American Council for Accredited Certification strongly discourages its certificants from performing both assessment services and contracting services on the same project. Certificants who offer both services to the same client create a perceived conflict of interest regardless of their integrity. Nevertheless, as circumstances sometimes prevent the employment of multiple professionals on the same project, ACAC does not prohibit the practice, nor does ACAC make compliance with this policy a condition of continued certification.
